Anaheim 1 2011

Anaheim 1 is always a big event and this year is no exception.  The first race of the season has all of the riders on their new bikes with a clean slate for the new year of racing.  I volunteered to help with the Legends and Heroes Tour and brought my DKW.  Even though I have done several events with them now, I am always blown away by the attention the DKW receives by the young and old.

The kids are amazed by the leading link front end and all of the chrome while the adults either had or wanted one of these incredible machines.  The chrome bars, tank, fenders, shocks, spokes and rims really make these bikes shine.

We were set up across from the Monster Energy stage and after talking over the top of their PA for several hours I lost my voice for a couple of days.  It is always a lot of fun talking about the early years of MX in the US.  I never know who might stop by or be a part of the Legends group so I have several recognition awards ready just in case.  I had been in CO at the MXDN with the Legends and Heroes where I had told Gary Baily about how he had let me stay in his huge tent during the rainfest at Hangtown 1969.  I had wanted to thank him for 40 years and told him that he and David are on my extreme pioneer hit list.

                                                                   Gary Baily

Pioneer to Professor is the appropriate title of his new book (garybaily.com) His accomplishments in the MX world are indeed Legendary and I was very happy to present him with my Extreme Sports Pioneer recognition.  Beating the Europeans and winning several National are just a few of his accomplishments.  He has kept the sport alive and growing by passing on his knowledge through his very successful MX school.  Thanks again for the tent and all that you have done for our Sport!!!

                                                                  David Baily

Taking American MX and Supercross to another level with his legendary battles with Ricky Johnson, David pioneered different ways of getting around the track.  The Monster announcers kept talking about the battle at Anaheim being the best ever but the one that stood out for me occurred at the Rose Bowl where the lead went back and forth almost every lap after lap.  It was so incredible to watch history in the making!!  Even after a life changing injury David was still pioneering racing by competing in marathons unbelievable!!  You are truly an inspiration.   Thanks for all you have done for MX and good luck with all your endeavors!!
